Bag Strap Repair & Replacement

Bag Strap Repair and Replacement: Broken, Stretched and Worn Straps
Straps carry the entire weight of a bag and everything in it, all day - so it’s no surprise they fail before almost anything else. Fraying at attachment points, stretching, cracked edges, snapped shoulder straps: all repairable, and where a strap is beyond saving, we craft replacements to the original design. One long-term client’s review says our replacement straps have outlasted the originals - that’s the standard.
Repair, reinforce or replace?
Repair suits localised damage: re-stitching a lifted seam, re-edging cracked strap edges, or refinishing worn colour along the shoulder line. Reinforcement addresses the classic failure-in-waiting — straps thinning or tearing where they meet rings and attachment points — by rebuilding those junctions before they snap. Replacement is for straps that have failed structurally: we pattern from the original, match leather, colour, edge finish and hardware, and fit through the bag’s existing attachment points.

Chain and mixed straps
Leather-woven chain straps (a Chanel signature) can have their leather rewrapped through the links; chain hardware itself is polished or replated. Fabric web straps are assessed individually - fraying webbing generally means replacement rather than repair.
Honest notes
A crafted replacement matches the original closely but isn’t a factory part - for collector pieces where originality drives value, we’ll talk it through first. For a bag you carry, a properly made strap is often stronger than the one it replaces.
Strap on its last threads? Photograph both attachment points and the full strap; attachment wear decides the approach.

FAQ
My strap snapped — can it be invisibly rejoined? A clean structural snap usually can’t be invisibly rejoined with full strength; reinforcement or replacement is the honest fix.
Can a stretched strap be shortened? Often yes, straps can frequently be shortened or adjusted at attachment points while keeping proportions right.
Do you make straps for discontinued bags? Yes - we pattern from your original or the bag itself, matching leather and hardware as closely as possible.
