Designer Bag Colour Change & Recolouring Sydney

Designer Bag Colour Change and Recolouring in Sydney

Can you dye a leather handbag a completely different colour? Professionally. Yes. A full colour change is one of the most transformative services we offer at The Reco Lab, and one of the most technically demanding. We’ve taken a white patent Fendi to jet black and given faded classics entirely new lives.

Recolour vs colour change

A colour refresh restores the bag’s original colour where it has faded, patched or suffered dye transfer. A full colour change takes the bag to a new colour altogether. Both involve preparing the surface, applying professional leather colourant in layers, then sealing and finishing, but a colour change demands complete, even coverage across every panel, edge and crease.

What makes a good candidate

Smooth and grained calf leathers take colour changes beautifully. Going darker is more reliable than going lighter: black over white works; white over black is far harder to achieve cleanly. Patent leathers can be recoloured with the right finishing system. Suede, exotic skins and coated canvas behave differently and are assessed individually, and hardware, interior and stitching colour all factor into whether the new colour will look factory-intended.

What we won’t promise

A colour change is a refinish, not a re-tan. On heavy-wear points the finish will age like any leather finish and may need touch-ups over years of use. We’ll also tell you honestly if a requested colour won’t suit the bag’s construction. Saying no is part of doing this properly.

Pricing

Surface colour refresh starts from $199 for bags depending on size and condition. Full colour changes start from $250, quoted individually, with complex pieces above that starting point. A minimum booking applies to all work; we’ll confirm everything in your quote.

FAQ

Can a light bag be dyed dark? Yes. Light to dark is the most reliable direction and usually gives an excellent, even result.

Can a dark bag be made lighter? Sometimes, but it’s much harder to achieve cleanly. We assess these case by case and are upfront about limitations.

Will the new colour crack or rub off? Professionally applied and sealed colour is durable in normal use, though high-friction points may need touch-ups over the years, as with any leather finish.
