How Long Does Bag Restoration Take?

How Long Does Designer Bag Restoration Take? An Honest Timeline

After “how much?”, the question we hear most is “how long?” — usually with a wedding, a holiday, an event, a trip or a birthday attached. Here’s a straight answer on what drives restoration timing, and how to plan around it.

Why proper restoration takes time

Quality leather work can’t be rushed at the chemistry level: cleaning agents need dwell time, colour builds in thin layers with curing between coats, edge coats and finishes cure over days not hours, and adhesives reach full strength slowly. A colour revival that’s beautiful for years is several patient sessions; one that’s done in an afternoon fails at the first flex. Add assessment on arrival, precision work at the bench and quality checking, and craft timelines make sense.

Realistic expectations by job type

As a guide: cleaning and minor services generally sit at the shorter end of a queue measured in weeks; colour work, lining replacement and structural restoration sit further along; and complex rebuilds or hardware replating (which involves specialist processes) longer still. Peak periods — pre-holiday and wedding season — extend queues, exactly as some of our reviews from busy Decembers note. Every formal quote includes its own timeframe, which is the number to plan around; interstate clients add transit each way.

In a genuine hurry?

Tell us the date up front. An urgent service option exists for deadline jobs where the work type allows acceleration — some processes (curing, plating) simply can’t be compressed, and we’ll say so rather than compromise the result.

The process, start to finish

Photos → preliminary quote within two business days → item received → in-person assessment and formal quote → your approval and payment → restoration → quality check → collection or tracked return. You’re informed at each stage.

Inside the atelier: why the queue exists

The photos below show a normal week at our bench: client pieces at every stage, from arrival assessment through colour work, curing and final checks. Every bag you see belongs to someone who chose to wait for the work to be done properly, and each one moves through the same unhurried process yours will. A full bench is the honest picture of restoration timelines, and it's also the reason we quote timeframes individually rather than promising the same week to everyone.

Working to a date? Include it with your photos and we’ll tell you honestly whether it’s achievable.

FAQ

Can anything be done same-week? Sometimes, for straightforward services when the schedule allows — ask with your quote. Urgent options carry a priority/ express service fee.

Why do quotes have different timeframes? Because jobs differ: curing-heavy colour work and specialist processes take longer than cleaning. Your formal quote’s timeframe is specific to your job.

Will I be updated during the work? Yes,  you’ll hear from us at assessment and completion, and you’re welcome to check in between.
