Suede Bag & Shoe Cleaning Sydney

Suede Bag and Shoe Cleaning in Sydney

Suede is one of the most beautiful (and least forgiving) materials in luxury fashion. One coffee spill, one rainy walk to the office, one well-meaning scrub with a damp cloth, and the nap flattens, watermarks appear and the colour patches. At The Reco Lab, suede and nubuck cleaning is a specialist service, handled very differently from smooth leather.

Why suede goes wrong so easily at home

Suede has an open, napped surface with no protective finish. Water alone can leave permanent rings, household cleaners strip colour, and hard brushing wears the nap away entirely. Many of the suede items we receive have been damaged more by the attempted fix than the original stain, a pattern we see across many designer bag mishaps.

Our suede cleaning process

We assess the suede type and dye stability first, then dry-clean the surface to lift loose soiling, treat stains with suede-specific agents, gently re-nourish the material and re-raise the nap with specialist brushing. Where colour has faded or patched, suede recolouring can restore a more even tone. We finish with a protective treatment that helps repel water and future stains.

What can and can’t be fixed

Most surface soiling, dust, light watermarks and general dullness clean up beautifully. Oil that has fully penetrated, old set-in dye transfer and burns may improve substantially but not always vanish. Suede absorbs deeply, and no honest specialist will promise total removal on penetrated stains. We assess every item individually and tell you the realistic outcome before you commit.

Pricing

Suede shoe cleaning typically starts from around $75 per pair, and suede bag cleaning from around $75 depending on size and condition, with recolouring quoted after assessment. A minimum booking applies to all work; we’ll confirm everything in your quote.

Suede emergency? Blot (never rub), keep it dry, and send us photos for a quote, the sooner we see it, the better the result.

FAQ

Can water stains be removed from suede? Light watermarks usually respond well to professional cleaning and nap restoration. Deep, old watermarks may improve rather than disappear entirely.

Can faded suede be recoloured? Yes. Suede recolouring can even out patchy or sun-faded colour on most items, assessed case by case for dye compatibility.

Should I use a supermarket suede kit? We’d advise against it on luxury items. Generic kits often flatten the nap or shift the colour, making professional correction harder.
